What the heck is going on here? |
Why?
Why would a grown man want to play with dolls?
Well let me set the record straight.
Firstly, they are called ACTION FIGURES. I love that name. Just roll it around your tongue for a while.
The reason stems all the way back to my childhood fascination with superheroes. For me, they always embodied the most idealistic aspects of humanity, and taught me the essence of nobility. Superheroes would always selflessly rush headlong into danger to thwart evil and preserve the common good. In short, they were cool.
As a young child I always played with my Mego superhero action figures. With cloth costumes & ultra posability, they were my constant companions for years.
Eventually though, all things grow and change. I went and put aside childish things as I grew because that is what I thought adults did. I sold my comics to help pay for my university tuition, sold or gave away my action figures and forgot superheroes. For a while....
Because they still created a fundamental sense of wonder for me, I went back to collecting comics about 3 years ago. Then I started collecting the action figures again. They were cool, but less than satisfying. Then I went down to the US for a business trip and stopped by a Toys R Us to pick up some goodies.
I was then reintroduced to an old friend.
It seemed that Toy Biz had begun to create the Famous Covers series to celebrate all that was great about the old Mego line. The size, cloth costumes, posability! It was all there! The first one I ever bought was a Falcon figure! Why? Not because he was my favorite (is he anyones?), but because he was CHEAP! I got him for $5.99! I thought that it was neat! But then something happened....
My mind began to wrap itself around the concept of redressing my figure and making another one out of it. It was a great idea, but how? That's when I started to research the web for some ideas, and proceeded to find that others shared the same love I had for the Mego line! They too had begun to take these figures and create unique representations of their favorite childhood heroes!
Which brings me to the reason for this site. I wanted to create a site where I could show off my work (natch!) and help others that might want to do the same thing! There are tips, tricks, & some of the tools I have used listed here!
Likewise, if you see something you like you can probably buy it! You can commission from me custom figures of most heroes! Send me your request and I can quote you a price! Just email me at the link at the bottom with your request! (Prices will vary depending on complexity of figure, and a non-refundable deposit will be required for all commissioned figures.)
So I hope you enjoy the site!
Vince
P.S. Remember “ACTION FIGURES”....dolls....sheesh! |
